Great site. Talked to your mom and she was so proud of what you are doing. Living in the chemical valley has taken another wrong turn in the course of providing “the commons” for the people that work and sweat so that out of state and out of country corporations can reap huge profits. Do these profits flow back, or should I say trickle down, to our people?  The “commons” are the air we breathe, the water we drink (or used to), and our natural resources and beauty. We need to protect the “commons” so that we can grow and improve our lives and the image of our state.

I was listening to John Boehner in an interview about our crisis and he went straight to the fact that we have enough regulations already, typical of a politician that is beholden to big corporations for campaign donations.

About regulations, I am sure we have regulations on the books, but common sense would dictate that if you have chemical storage facilities upriver from a water plant, then you would be inspecting that facility on a regular basis, like once every three months, instead of once every 23 years. Somebody dropped the ball (probably while stuffing wads of campaign cash in their pockets) and our press/media need to keep the heat on our elected officials so that the “commons” will still be here for our grandchildren.  Be proactive, write letters, attend town hall meetings, ask questions. Then and only then might we start climbing out of the hole dug for us by big corporations.
